Introduction

If you are a medical professional specialised in accident and emergency medicine; if you want to challenge yourself to work in remote or less-equipped environment; if you enjoy flying and are willing to volunteer to serve the community in addition to your own duty, the Government Flying Service (GFS) Air Medical Officer (AMO) / Air Medical Nursing Officer (AMNO) may be a good choice for you. As a GFS AMO / AMNO, you will exercise your expertise to prevent further medical complications to help patients/causalities on the road to hospital. In certain situations, you may become someone else"s lifeline for their survival.

Career

one should
  1. hold a valid Hong Kong Aircraft Maintenance Licence;
  2. possess 5 years relevant post-qualification experience in a supervisory position of the employment stream;
  3. meet the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 (Note) or above in English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent; and be able to communicate in Chinese;
  4. be amenable to discipline and willing to work shifts; and
  5. be a permanent resident of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Note: For civil service appointment purpose, "Grade E" in English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to "Level 2" in English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.

Training for an Aircraft Engineer in the GFS includes aircraft type training on the GFS fleet – fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters – locally and overseas. There will also be detachments to other sections within the GFS to broaden their knowledge of the GFS operations.
